On August 11th, 2020, Archbishop Gomez joined us and the Mr. and Mrs. White in blessing our new multipurpose hall. The ceremony recognized the White family’s commitment to Catholic education in Los Angeles and their belief that all students are worthy of excellence. With a generous donation from the Edward and Mary White Foundation, St. John Chrysostom School is able to provide an exceptional athletic and performing arts facility for our students.
This highly-functional space will be used for physical education, athletic competitions, performing arts, and community events. The hall is equipped with specialized athletic flooring, two regulation basketball hoops, premium volleyball equipment, and soccer nets. In addition, the space now includes benches, a scoreboard, and safety padding to ensure our athletes and spectators can safely participate in events.
Our athletic director and physical education teacher, Coach Pat, has worked tirelessly to strengthen our athletic program over the past five years. As a result of his dedication, the Cougars athletics program has made significant strides year-after-year. With the new facility, our student-athletes can truly reach their full potential and have their families experience watching a game in their home. This contribution reminds us that all students are worthy of athletic opportunities.
Ultimately, this is more than just new equipment. In a time where it is easy to feel isolated, Mr. and Mrs. White’s meaningful donation provides our students with a tangible sense of community. The St. John Chrysostom Cougars are excited for the day when we can all gather together in this wonderful space. It’s a comforting and exciting thought in the midst of a pandemic, and it would not be possible without the generosity of the Edward and Mary White Foundation.
